Jolanta Wdowczyk (JOLA WU)
The series "Designing protest":
"WOMAN, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SPEAK!" (diptych-corridor)
"DON’T LET THEM WRITE YOU OFF!"
"DON’T WALK ALL OVER ME!"
They refer directly to the situation of women in a sexist culture in which it’s shameful to be a victim and perpetrators are doing well. It’s a call to all persecuted women - oppressed, intimidated and beaten, to demand decent treatment. In Poland, the "Constitutional Tribunal" (with its rulling) has trodden down something, that’s the foundation of a civilized world… human rights, including the access to abortion. The state has committed an act of direct violence against women and indirect violence against their partners. The motherland can’t be a place of contempt and abuse against present and future mothers. The choice must belongs to women! I protest against callousness and ordinary conservative foolishness. Existing as a subject and not as an object requires rebellion. It’s striking that in this country you have to fight it, to become a full-fledged citizen. My responsibility as an female artist is just as important that of a female soldier, psychologist or politician. My works are often an artistic form of verbalization of scream, resonant message, which attract attention and provoke certain attitudes.
"Lack of acceptance for evil" is my works’ motto.
Silence can hurt.
